Graduation

The house on Granger Street would see the birth of the fifth son of the Spacco's, Salvatore William Spacco, on May 19th, 1929. He attended Dorchester High School and after he graduated he enlisted in the Navy. He was assigned to a ship and worked in the ships laundry.

After his honorable discharge form the service he met Barbara Nunan at the Mallow Cafe in Fields Corner, Dorchester on her 18 birthday. Three years later they were married in St. Peters Church, Dorchester on September 21th, 1956. Their reception was attended by one hundred and fifty guest at the Lithuanian Club, South Boston. They took an apartment on Westville Street in Dorchester and Sam found work at the ECA Corperation as a tool and die maker (a profession he would follow for thirty five years).

Barbara gave birth to their first daughter Paula exactly one year from their wedding day (see photo). Their first son, Jimmy would be born the following year, then Danny and Joe.

Sam and Barbara would frequent the Hybernia Club and King Sq. Tavern. Sam belonged to St. Anne's bowling league, VFW Post, and Son's of Italy. He also liked to go to the dog track. Sam was a devoted Catholic and he enjoyed Mass. He also enjoyed baseball, following the Boston Red Sox.

In 1962 the family moved to a house on Alpha Road in Dorchester and added Eddie and Barbara. 1972 Sam and Barbara bought their first home. It was a two family house located on Grayson Street in Dorchester. Sam continued as a tool and die maker for the Cole Hersey Company in South Boston after ECA closed.

Sam was very talented man and good at everything he did. His skills ranged from drawing to home repair. He enjoyed doing house work too! He did a great job of making less work for his wife, because she always worked nights. He tended to his children after school and cooked dinner. Sam like one show, Jackie Gleason. With his children he would sit there and he would laugh, laugh, laugh.

Sundays meant dinner cooked by his mother at the house on Mill Street. These meals with his brothers were a family tradition for many years.

Sam died of a heart aneurysm in 1991. He is remembered as a quite humble man. Barbara has remarried and the house on Grayson Street is now occupied by James, Nancy and family, upstairs, and Eddie on the first floor.
