Marie was the last child of Concetta and Jimmy Spacco, the only daughter of eight children. Her mother was almost 35 at the time of her birth. She attended St. Ambrose Grammar School until 1951 when she began high school at E. Burke, graduating in 1955. After high school she worked for John Hancock. During this period she meet Don Kempton. They dated throughout the summer of 1958 and married in the fall. They settled in East Boston, but soon moved back to Dorchester. She stayed with John Hancock for seven years, staying on after the birth of her first child, Donna Marie and quitting for the birth of her second child John. At 33, she would have her last child, Leeandria, who she currently lives with (in her own apartment) in Hingham Massachusetts after the death of her husband in 1998.
